Day 1: Shinjuku Tokyo
After all the anticipation of travelling to Japan for the first time, we finally set foot on the Land of the Rising Sun! Summer weather was sunny, hot and humid.. not unlike Singapore actually? Since we barely caught forty winks on the plane (too distracted by the games, movies and Justin's persistent cough).. the long bus ride from Narita Airport to Hilton Hotel was much appreciated. Thank God for an early check-in which gave us more time to rest.. before wandering around the streets to forage for food.
We have never set eyes so much food selection before and everything we saw was absolutely kawaii!!! The impressive packagings and cute miniature displays were so scrumptiously tempting that I wished I had four stomachs (like a cow).. ha ha! So naturally, we did what normal kiasu people would do.. and ended up buying too much food cos we just HAD to try a bit of everything! However, part of the problem was that most shops served only their own 'specialties'.. (sushi, sashimi, udon, ramen, curry, beef).. definitely very different mentality here.. and I don't think Japanese folks have the habit of hopping from one shop to another?
Lastly, our extremely limited Japanese wasn't any good when we tried to buy cough and flu medicine from a local 'drug' store (they don't call it pharmacy here). After failing to get the message across through mime (Pictionary style).. we abandoned the project and resorted to towel and hot water therapy.. and of cos.. prayer!
