Fiddlesticks and Spiders..

It was Speech Day.. I forgot which year it was.. but I remember her looking very elegant in a white dress.. with an orchid corsage adding colour.. Ms. Elena Cooke was and will always be a true BBGS icon...

She came blustering into our Bible Knowledge class.. we were already quite in awe of her even BEFORE meeting her in person.. that was the effect she had on almost every young impressionable school girl. We soon learned to recognise her foot steps.. the sound of her heels click-clacking on the cement floor.. that would send us hurriedly to our respective desks and books. 'FIDDLESTICKS!'.. she exclaimed.. 'Go catch spiders!'.. 'pppfffttt!'.. I was amused.. it was the first time I actually heard someone say out loud the familiar phrases used by Enid Blyton in her books. Ms. Cooke's choice of words were usually succinct.. crisp.. clear.. and very British.. maybe that's why Professor McGonagall in Harry Potter reminded me of her?!

Although she will be dearly missed by her many 'children'.. I'm rest assured that it will a blast at the heavenly reunion dinner.. may God bless her soul!
