Final Lessons Learnt For 2011...
Non compete.. non soliciting.. non disclosure.. such terms were foreign and seemingly non important to me until the end of last year. One of my staff left the company and started her own.. taking with her more than half the clients! It felt like a slap in the face from someone I had trained up from scratch for the past 2.5 years. Maybe it's the altruistic nature of the helping profession that made me forget that for the most of the world out there.. it's often purely business.. just dollars and cents. Needless to say.. my stress level tripled and escalated the neck and muscle aches which were already there!
It was a crash course on the application of Matthew 5: 39-41.. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if someone wants to sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.. Woah! That was really, really tough! I was instinctively indignant and severely tempted to fight back.. but was thankfully reminded of the story of how Abraham allowed his nephew Lot to choose what he wanted.. and obviously Lot chose the well-watered land. But God blessed Abraham greatly for his obedience (Genesis 13:1-18).
Therefore, it is prudent to bear in mind Proverbs 3:5-6.. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways submit Him and He will make your paths straight..
