Italy Day 4: St. Peter's Church
It was a cool morning with blue skies despite the earlier forecast.. great! We rushed to St. Peter's Basilica to avoid the crowd and were rewarded with a short queue. WOW!! How did people in THOSE days make THIS?!! Such a magnificent building seems impossible without the current architecture and technology. We admired the incredibly beautiful paintings.. statues and carvings.. Michelangelo's Pieta (Mary holding the body of Jesus on her lap).. but after visiting the tombs of Popes.. Jared piped; 'Ok, this is freaking me out! Can we go now?
We dropped by the Old Bridge gelato shop (absolutely deee-licious!).. and finally bought myself a new pair of mid-shin brown boots.. YAY!!! Then we revisited Giggi's place for lunch and ordered meat balls with mushroom and peas.. sausage with lentils.. pasta and bean soup (served with bread).. the local dishes tasted okay but I think the lasagna and spaghetti were definitely better. We forgot to specify which type of mineral water we wanted and the waitress poured the 'bubbly' version into our glasses. I must say tho.. carbonated water ain't nice at all...
After a short rest back at the hotel, we made our way to Piazza Navona again for dinner.. it was beautiful in the city at night.. with all the street lamps and buildings lighted up.. waahhh! Jimmy and I had a romantic stroll along the Tiber river bank.. while the boys chattered behind us.. Justin apparently trying to teach Jared algebra! He's thinking of Maths? Why was he being extra diligent NOW.. when he should have been BEFORE the exams???
