And You Can't Use Algebra..2a + 2b = 5c?

This is are samples of Primary 5 Maths questions.. it took 2 university grads quite some time to figure out the answer..what more a 10 year old kid??? My poor boy..*haiz*.. Are you ready? Get set..GO!!!
Question 1:
Sarah had 189 more stamps than her sister. After their mother gave Sarah 75 stamps and her sister 46 stamps, Sarah had twice as many stamps as her sister. How many stamps did Sarah have at first?
Question 2:
Jack had 3 times as many stickers as Noel. After Jack gave away 381 of them and Noel gave away 63, Noel had 3 times as many stickers as Jack. How many stickers did Noel have at first?
Question 3:
There are a total of 1430 red, blue, green and yellow marbles in a box. John discovered that if he does all of the following; he would get the same number of marbles for each colour. How many green marbles are there in the box?
  • doubles the number of red marbles
  • adds 40 blue marbles
  • removes 30 green marbles
  • removes half of the yellow marbles

So how long did you take to complete the questions? How did you fare? Got them all correct at the first attempt? If I remember correctly, I think in P5 I was literally playing with 'five stones' and marbles..not counting them??? No wonder most kids in Singapore need tuition etc. etc. etc.!!! Imagine if they are given 2.5 hours for the Maths test paper now..what will it be like at Secondary or University level? 6 HOURS??? *faintz*

Answers: 1. 361 2. 135 3. 350

Song Debut-ed!

Finally did my first song debut on Monday 18 Feb 2008.. during the WAM vision nite (I Say I Do and Let All The Nations Shout Praises). Honestly, I found the experience much more nerve-wrecking than worship leading itself. I was so anxious that my voiced cracked at one point and I forgot some lyrics to my own song?! Weird right? Ha ha ha...

A BIG thank you to the band..Gerald, Geoffrey, David, Albert, Davin, Eugene, Rachel, Si Jia..the songs wouldn't sound half as good without you talented folks..and of cos..not forgetting our faithful soundman..Royston :0) I really hope that this has started the ball rolling and I'm sure there are many great songs..about to be or already written out there...jia you!

I'm in the midst of producing 2 songs..Rock and R&B!!! Fingers crossed..and covered with lots of prayer..Hope Album 2009..here we come!!!

Broken Toe???

Wed 9:15am..arrived at work with such enthusiasm after CNY (dripping with sarcasm)..that as I burst through the door..my left little toe got caught underneath and the door slammed right on it..OW OW OW!!! Aduh sakit nya!!! Definitely not a very good start to the day :0(

I ignored it at first..but after about an hour..my little toe started throbbing and when I looked down..it was bruised, swollen and turning a dark purple..ARRGGHH!!! So in this case, it was a bit like "physician heal thyself"..I put an ice-pack on it to reduce pain and bring down the swelling. Later, I "buddy" taped it to 4th toe using Coban..and that got me through the rest of the day.

But after work, the usual 10 mins walk to my car took an agonising 20 mins!!! Well, at least I had a car..otherwise, I would have had to take a cab home. Hopefully, it's not a fracture but it does mean I will have to wear slippers and hobble around for some time..not a very graceful image I must say..ha ha ha!!!

Half-Nester...

Justin went for his first 3-day/2-night school camp last week. This was his FIRST time staying away from home by himself (i.e. without his parents..cos the other 100 kids don't count..ha ha!). As I packed his bag (insect repellent, torchlight, toilet paper, soap, towel etc.), it was a strange feeling knowing that my baby has grown up!!! Seemed like just yesterday..I was still changing his diapers and burping him on my shoulder.. *Haiz*. This parenting experience can be quite an enigma..sometimes can't wait for the kids to grow up and at other times, wish they were small and cute again??? And with Jimmy away in Cannes (France), that boiled down to only Jared and me..Jared was quite happy being left as the "big boss" and "man of the house"..which in his little mind meant that he had the TV remote control all to himself..without having to fight over it with his brother..Ha ha ha!!!

And during this period of absence I also learnt some important lessons with regards driving:
1. Don't drive near tall bushes in the dark
2. There are hidden pillars (or kerbs) in the tall bushes in the dark
3. Don't be too lazy to reverse the car in order to avoid driving near the tall bushes in the dark

I Say I Do...

Nope.. this is not birth out of attending too many weddings.. ha ha! But after spending some time reflecting and musing.. (and watching Korean drama series).. I realised that Jesus is really the ONLY ONE who truly knows us the best! P.S. Quite a few people have commented that this song sounds like a K-pop movie soundtrack???

Nobody else knows me better than You Lord
Nobody loves me like You do
Nobody else takes me the way I am
What can I say to You my Lord?
I say I do

I was drifting and wandering around
Looking for something that's missing from my life
Getting no answers till I found You
And You ask me "Do you believe in me?"

I was broken and bitter all inside
Heard that You healed by Your sacrifice
That You could give me peace, joy and strength
And You ask me "Do you receive me?"
